Dual Media / Multimedia Filtration (MMF)

Dual Media / Multimedia Filtration (MMF)

Multimedia Filtration is a method of filtering sediments and particulates from water by applying pressurized feed water to push liquid through filtration media.

At a certain period of continuous filtration, suspended solids entrapped in the media accumulate, reducing the efficiency of filtration process and increasing the pressure drop. The pressure drop must be less than 1 bar to have an efficient filtration system. When the differential pressure exceeds the limit, backwashing will be required.

Backwashing is the process of reversing the flow of water through the filter media to remove th particulates trapped in the filter bed. During backwash, the Multimedia Filter bed expands, clearing suspended solids to flow out of the top of the vessel.

After backwash, the bed is settled for a few minutes and flushed with water as final rinse and then is back to service.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

  • Produce low turbidity in treated water
  • No chemical requirements
  • Low operating costs
  • Manual and Automatic Operation
  • Easy operation and maintenance
  • Supply customized design
  • Supply as part of integrated system to achieve the performance guarantee values
  • Fast track delivery

APPLICATIONS

Multimedia filters are employed to eliminate suspended solids and reduce the turbidity level of the water by entrapping impurities within the media. It contains a multilayer of media such as sand, anthracite granite, and gravel and is arranged according to its densities where the lighter density is placed on the top.

Multimedia Filtration (MMF) is commonly used for filtration process in the following applications:

  • Surface Water Filtration
  • Pre-treatment to RO System
  • Final Filtration for wastewater treatment system
  • Preparation of cooling water
  • Irrigation
  • Industrial water and wastewater treatment
  • Produced water treatment

DFTO – Direct Fired Thermal Oxidizer

DFTO – Direct Fired Thermal Oxidizer

In addition to RETOX RTO Thermal Oxidizers for low LEL Solvent VOCs, Adwest provides DFTO-Direct Fired Thermal Oxidizer and DFCO-Direct Fired Catalytic Oxidizers for high and rich LEL process applications. Most Direct Fired DFTOs provide 1.0 seconds and greater retention time with turbulent flow and mixing for 99%+ VOC DRE efficiencies at 1400 degrees F and great oxidation Temperatures. (600-750 F for DFCO Oxidation with catalyst bed)

Adwest DFTO and DFCO Oxidizers are low profile, skid mounted design with most units pre-piped and wired, internally shop insulated with the control panel mounted on the DFTO and DFCO skid. Point source DFTOs start at 1,000 scfm and can be custom designed to over 60,000 scfm flow rates. The DFTO Thermal oxidizer Bruner System can utilize natural gas, propane, butane, biogas and even hydrogen as fuel sources. DFTOs typically provide fast cold startup times and are well suited for high VOC Streams on batch process applications.

DFTOs also provide excellent odor abatement for malodorous and high Btu processes with long chain aldehyde and hydrocarbon components. Both DFTO and DFCOs also provide a cost-effective backup to existing oxidizer systems on processes that need to operate 24/7/365 and have an emergency backup.

Custom Environmental Control in Metal Industry Electrical Equipment Rooms

Custom Environmental Control in Metal Industry Electrical Equipment Rooms

Engineers in the metals industry commonly design ventilation systems for electrical equipment rooms. The areas of most concern are rolling mill motor room ventilation, transformer vaults, power control rooms, computer rooms, and pulpits. Busch offers deep expertise in custom designs to achieve environmental control and cooling ventilation in these rooms. We understand that the primary objectives in designing a ventilation system for electrical equipment are to provide an environment that will:

  • Extend equipment life
  • Allow the equipment to operate at maximum efficiency at its rated capacity, with maximum uptime

The most successful methods of ventilation of large electrical equipment enclosures in the metal industry include:

  • Self-cleaning, high-efficiency filters
  • Packaged ventilation units with capacities as high as 250,000 CFM
  • Advanced corrosion protection systems
  • Improved heating and cooling technologies

Custom designs are needed to meet the unique ventilation requirements associated with electrical equipment. Simply purchasing ventilation components through an installing contractor or equipment supplier will result in several problems that stem from the unique ventilation requirements.

Commissioning Silencer

Commissioning Silencer

During the installation of a new plant or an upgrade of a plant there is a big change that debris enters the system. This debris forms a big risk for the plant integrity and can cause safety issues. To assure the debris will not be there any more at start-up cleaning needs to be done. A typical way of cleaning is blowing high pressure steam through the piping.

With steam blowing a lot of noise is generated which causes another safety risk for the employees and the environment. For that reason, a Commissioning silencer is required. This silencer needs to be extremely robust to handle the debris (tools, weld slag, etc.), easy to maintain/clean and have good acoustical performance.

Our standard commissioning silencer model is designed to vent over half a million kg/hr. (1.1 million lbs./hr.) of steam and provides 35-40 decibels of noise reduction. Additional noise reduction in total noise is achievable by way of an acoustical splitter package installed at the outlet of the silencer. This design with spitter package can provide over 50 decibels of noise reduction.

The silencer is skidded for shipment and installation on a flat ground. For easier transportation worldwide, installation and meet high mass flow, optimize design can be provided with optimum size silencers connected in parallel.

With the horizontal inlet pipe that has a flat cover that can easily be removed the debris can be taken out easily.

Since this type of silencers is only used for a few weeks or months at a time there is also the possibility to rent these silencers.
