Pickle Line Fume Exhaust

Pickle Line Fume Exhaust

Modern steel mill pickle lines utilize Hydrochloric Acid to clean the surface of the steel sheet. Acid mist and fumes are generated during this process.

Busch, and our sister firm HEE-Duall, provide complete fume scrubbing systems to capture and neutralize this acid fume. Our systems begin at flanged connections to the pickle line tank covers. A fiberglass duct connects the tank covers to the scrubber and fan, which exhausts to the outdoors by means of an exhaust stack.

The Pickle Line Scrubber is a counter current packed bed scrubber consisting of packed tower complete with flanged horizontal radial gas inlet, glass-filled polypropylene random packing. This allows for excellent mass transfer resulting in high efficiency capture of HCl fume at a minimum pressure drop.

  • The scrubber housing incorporates a vertical or horizontal outlet flange to facilitate installation in limited space.
  • The packing is irrigated by internal piping and liquid distribution system.
  • HCl is scrubbed by using a re-circulation wash water solution from integral self-contained re-circulation tank at the bottom of the scrubber.
  • Blow-down from the re-circulation system serves as make-up water to the pickle line.

We deliver top-performing mist eliminators with optional internal spray piping and spray nozzle to intermittently wash the underside of the mist eliminator, triggered by either high-pressure differential or on a timed sequence.

The cleaned gas from the scrubber is sent to a System ID fan via an interconnecting duct and then to the stack. Click here to download our Steel Brochure.

Note: Acid storage tank vents may also be connected to the system.

Ozone Disinfection

Ozone Disinfection

High ozone concentrations are produced by exposing air or oxygen to a controlled, high-voltage discharge at a set frequency. Water treatment plants then use this ozone to treat wastewater. After generating ozone gas, it is pumped into chambers to mix with water since ozone is an unstable gas that can destroy microorganisms cells. Ozone (O3) in water release the weaker oxygen molecule, penetrate the cell, and destroy the cell components (enzymes, proteins, DNA).

MS Super Venturi Scrubber

MS Super Venturi Scrubber

Scrubbers are used for gaseous and particulate control, by means of utilizing water, or other liquid, to remove pollutants from an exhaust stream.

With Venturi scrubbers, the dirty gas entering a scrubber is forced at high velocity through a Venturi where it collides with scrubbing water. The tiny water droplets capture particles through impaction and diffusion. The dirty water is then removed in a cyclonic separator and discharged into a recycle tank. Some of the liquid is continuously purged to limit the solids concentration and allow recirculation back to the Venturi section.

All our Fisher-Klosterman Emtrol MS Super Venturi Scrubbers are designed to operate with the highest efficiency and durability, surpassing industry standards and performance guaranteed.

We utilize numerous designs for our throat, water injection and separator components to ensure that the scrubber you install is best suited for your process requirements, attaining maximum productivity and efficiency.

Jet*Star Strip Cooling

Jet*Star Strip Cooling

The Busch Jet*Star Strip Cooling System is the most efficient method to air cool a moving strip in the metals industry. Jet*Star technology utilizes a unique combination of aerodynamic and thermodynamic principles. Its patented technology enables cooling of heavier gauge strip at higher strip speeds, while requiring less energy and space than other methods.

Design and Construction

Busch has developed a proprietary heat transfer simulation model for selection of the proper Jet*Star configuration for each application. Capacity, unit arrangement and dimensions, number of nozzles, and material construction are modified to meet individual user specifications. Unit pre-assembly ensures simplified installation and proper orientation. The theoretical model has been extensively verified through actual results from numerous successful systems.

Air-Water cooling systems are also available. Please contact us for more information.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

Benefits of Jet*Star are applicable to all types of process lines:

  • Galvanizing a Pot Cooling
  • Minimizing pre-cooling
  • Anneal and Pickle Air Quench
  • Cooling before rinse tank
  • Silicone Line post furnace cooling
  • Aluminum continuous casters to control cooling rates

The heat transfer efficiency of Jet*Star is increased through a substantial reduction of thermal contamination, crossflow, and re-entrainment of spent air. In retrofit applications, this heightened efficiency often permits a reduction in length of the cooling zone, lower strip outlet temperatures, and higher production rates.

Strip Stability

The heat transfer efficiency of Jet*Star is increased through a substantial reduction of thermal contamination, crossflow, and re-entrainment of spent air. In retrofit applications, this heightened efficiency often permits a reduction in length of the cooling zone, lower strip outlet temperatures, and higher production rates.

Another important benefit of the Jet*Star System is the reduction of strip instability (flutter). By controlling the lateral forces against the strip through aerodynamic balancing, strip stabilization is controlled, and strip flutter problems are eliminated or substantially decreased. Jet*Star Metal Strip Drying

Jet*Star Metal Strip Drying

High Efficiency, Uniform Drying, Stable Operation

The Busch Jet*Star Strip Drying System uses high volume, low pressure heated air to rapidly dry moving metal strips. The Jet*Star Strip Dryers produce predetermined functional wiping patterns on the strip surface. Air flow and thermal energies are applied in an intensive and uniform manner, resulting in rapid water disengagement and almost instantaneous mist removal from the strip. Spent heat is dissipated in the dryer, thus reducing re-deposition of airborne fog and mist.

Jet*Star’s uniformity and repeatability of the drying process across and along the strip enhances:

  • Film disengagement
  • Mist transportation
  • Evaporation

Problems associated with recirculated systems such as the buildup of CO2, CO, humidity, temperature, and corrosion are substantially eliminated.

Jet*Star strip dryers are designed using centrifugal fans with backwardly curved wheels which consume less horsepower and create less noise compared to other designs. Most Jet*Star Strip Drying Systems consists of a supply air fan, connecting duct, floe control dampers, air heater, and the Jet*Star Strip Dryer. Steam or natural gas-fired heating systems are available.
