FCC Cyclones – Third Stage Separator Systems

FCC Cyclones – Third Stage Separator Systems

Fluid Catalytic Cracking Units (FCC Cyclones) are the principal technologies that enable the critical process within heavy oil refining of converting the heavy oils into more valuable gasoline and lighter products. More than half of the refinery’s heavy petroleum is processed through the FCC Cyclones, and the FCC Cyclones are also an important source of butene and pentene olefins used in refinery processes.

Our Emtrol-Buell brand has supplied more FCC Cyclones to refineries and petrochemical plants worldwide than any other supplier, so our experience in this area is unequaled. Our FCC Cyclones are designed to enhance separation efficiency, accommodate increased catalyst loading, and are tailored to meet the application needs of refineries and petrochemical plants.

FCC Cyclones – Third Stage Separator Systems

Third Stage Separator Systems include cyclones, a containment vessel, an underflow system, catalyst storage and evacuation.

Unlike traditional third stage units designed to eliminate particles >10 micron diameter and high inlet and outlet velocities, characterized by a large number of small cyclone, Emtrol-Buell brand Third Stage Separator Systems are designed to collect as much catalyst as possible while limiting system erosion and catalyst attrition.

We utilize a pressure vessel to contain fewer, larger diameter, high efficiency cyclones sized to maintain inlet velocity (with refractory lined cyclones, erosion on cyclone surface is reduced to an acceptable level).

Unlike other systems, our technologies do not require underflow for proper operation, as solids can be discharged directed through a valve. From the final collection hopper, the fines can be off-loaded to a truck or disposal container.

By designing and building trustworthy, innovative hardware for over 120 years, Emtrol-Buell has lead the way in modernizing refining equipment. FCC Cyclones – Fourth Stage Cyclones

The Cyclone Vessel, which is the common hopper for the cyclone catalyst discharge, is designed to hold the catalyst collected over several days. However, normally the catalyst from the Cyclone Vessel is continuously conveyed to the Fourth Stage Cyclone by a small amount of gas, usually from 1 to 3% of the gases entering the cyclones. During the travel through the un-insulated line and the Fourth Stage Cyclone, a considerable amount of heat is lost from the catalyst and gases.

Additional cooling of the catalyst occurs in the Fines Collection Vessel. The gases from the Fourth Stage Cyclone pass through a critical orifice where the gas pressure is reduced for discharge through the stack. When the Fines Collection Vessel is to be emptied into a closed truck for transport to a land fill, the valve above the vessel is closed, a vent valve is opened to relieve the pressure, and the valve beneath the vessel is opened so that the catalyst may discharge into the truck.

FCC Cyclones – Catalyst Hopper Cyclones

Our Catalyst Hopper Cyclones are easily adaptable to a variety of applications, including loading and/or unloading of Fresh and Spent Catalyst Hoppers, or as auxiliary hoppers for special additives.  These cyclones are typically designed to minimize catalyst lost to atmosphere in the vent from the hopper during loading and/or unloading operations of the hopper.

Eductor Venturi Scrubbers

Eductor Venturi Scrubbers

Scrubbers are used for gaseous and particulate control, by means of utilizing water, or other liquid, to remove pollutants from an exhaust stream.

With Venturi scrubbers, the dirty gas entering a scrubber is forced at high velocity through a venturi where it collides with scrubbing water. The tiny water droplets capture particles through impaction and diffusion. The dirty water is then removed in a cyclonic separator and discharged into a recycle tank. Some of the liquid is continuously purged to limit the solids concentration and allow recirculation back to the venturi section.

HEE-Duall brand Eductor Venturi Scrubbers have been engineered for maximum durability and reliability. Our design incorporates a high-pressure spray for maximum entrainment and scrubbing efficiency, and is the optimal choice where high temperatures, heavy contaminant loads and corrosive conditions are present.

Dual Media / Multimedia Filtration (MMF)

Dual Media / Multimedia Filtration (MMF)

Multimedia Filtration is a method of filtering sediments and particulates from water by applying pressurized feed water to push liquid through filtration media.

At a certain period of continuous filtration, suspended solids entrapped in the media accumulate, reducing the efficiency of filtration process and increasing the pressure drop. The pressure drop must be less than 1 bar to have an efficient filtration system. When the differential pressure exceeds the limit, backwashing will be required.

Backwashing is the process of reversing the flow of water through the filter media to remove th particulates trapped in the filter bed. During backwash, the Multimedia Filter bed expands, clearing suspended solids to flow out of the top of the vessel.

After backwash, the bed is settled for a few minutes and flushed with water as final rinse and then is back to service.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

  • Produce low turbidity in treated water
  • No chemical requirements
  • Low operating costs

Demineralization by Ion Exchange Resin

Demineralization by Ion Exchange Resin

Demineralization (IOX) is based on chemical properties that form the ion exchange resins, synthetic origin polymeric roots. Those resins are supplied with active functional groups, bonded to the sources that can exchange their moving ions with ions having the same charge contained in the solutions when water pass the IOX bed.

The Dementalization process is a cyclic process, thus, regeneration using acid & caustic soda is required at a specific frequency based on the ionic load, ion exchange quantity and flow rate. The standard system consists of Pretreatment to ensure feed water TSS is less than < 5 ppm, with a wide range of feed water conductivity up to 1,000 μm, two mono beds (SAC & SBA) followed by a mixed bed. Based on the feed water quality, a degasifier might be considered between the mono bids to reduce carbon dioxide load.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

  • Cost-effective operation and maintenance with an ionic load less than 500 μm
  • Low power consumption
  • Reliability & Robust
  • Provides complete removal of dissolved inorganic particles
  • Handle a wide range of raw water sources & quality
