RETOX Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) System: Rotation-Type

Since 1988, Adwest has installed over 1400 flameless regenerative thermal oxidation devices around the world. It mainly works on packaging tape industry, copper-clad plate industry, chemical engineering, resin and polymer, oil refining and gas processing, pharmacy, finish machining of oil painting and other industries. It has provided thermal oxidation solutions with low cost and high benefit for customer (EPC turnkey project), which effectively reduces the emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), gaseous toxic smog, acid gases and stinky gases.


Principle of rotary RTO

The RTO consists of a single combustion chamber, heat recovery media segregated into (12) divisions, with natural/fuel gas train and burner assembly, a diverter valve assembly, and a pneumatic power system to drive the diverter valve.

The draught fan will feed Oven exhaust flows through the RTO system and is controlled by indexing the diverter valve located beneath the main oxidation chamber. The valve directs the process gasses through (5) of the (12) available heat recovery chambers where it is preheated on its way to the oxidation chamber. The valve also directs clean air from the oxidation chamber through (5) of the remaining recovery chambers, releasing thermal energy into the media before exiting the system via the exhaust duct.

The valve design also permits a purge or flush of the chamber that is in transition between the inlet to outlet mode.

  2. It can be controlled simply and operated steadily and reliably. The whole system will only have 3 controlling points by using diverter valve. This reduces the damage rate. In the switchover process, there is a small fluctuation. The type has been updated to the third generation by now, the valve has a good sealing property and the leakage of exhaust gas shall be minimized. Nearly 40 sets of rotary RTO devices have been successfully used in China. It is required for routine maintenance every 3-5 years. The service life of a rotary valve can reach over 10 years.
  3. Exhaust gas flows uniformly. Since the furnace body is a circular cavity room, gas flow is always in the state of balanced and stable flowing. The thermal bypass is set at the top of hearth, which avoids the short loop of flue gas emission.
  4. The floor area is compact. The floor area saves above 1/3 than that of the traditional multi-tower type, which meets space limitation.
