Jet*Star Strip Dryer

Busch International's Jet*Star Dryer uses energy in a novel manner to rapidly dry strip which is travelling fast or slow, horizontally or vertically, regardless of how heavily it is wetted with rinse water or acid dip films. Jet*Star produces predetermined functional wiping patterns on the strip surface. This maximizes water disengagement and evaporative heat transfer. While the flow and thermal energies consumed by Jet*Star are low, they are applied in an intensive and uniform manner. This results in rapid film disengagement and almost instantaneous mist removal from the system. The resultant film preparation for maximizing heat transfer and film evaporation without strip overheating is unique to the Jet*Star process. Equally im-portant, spent heat is dissipated in the dryer thus reducing redeposition of fugitive airborne fog and mist. With Jet*Star, there are no wet-spot surprises. The uniformity and repeatability of the drying process across and along the strip enhances film disengagement, mist transport, and evaporation. Problems associated with recirculating systems such as the buildup of CO2, CO, humidity, temperature, and corrosion are substantially eliminated.

Jet*Star Systems are extremely flexible. The design incorporates ease of adjustment of size and velocity of the dryer's ambient air and hot air zones. System operating economy can be further improved by an optional feature for Dryer Active Width Adjustment. A typical Jet*Star Strip Dryer System consists of a supply air fan, an optional exhaust air fan, bifurcated duct, flow control dampers, air heater (optional), and the Jet*Star Strip Dryer.

By putting the strip into an aerodynamically produced force field, strip stabilization is controlled and strip flutter problems are eliminated or substantially decreased.

Busch International has developed a Propriety computer-based methodology for selection of the proper Jet*Star configuration for each application. The database for this program was developed after several years of laboratory testing using equipment that closely simulates field conditions. Extensive verification of test results was performed with operating Jet*Star systems.

The Jet*Star Strip Cooling System is custom designed to meet site requirements. Capacity, Unit arrangement and dimensions, number of nozzles, materials of construction and wiring can be modified to meet individual user specifications. Unit pre-assembly assures simplified installation and proper operation.
